Excel and Open Office export

I've been using open office (OO) export/import since I installed Jollans . It has worked well, but I have 10+ projects in the same solution, so it is time consuming to export/import every projects worksheet one at time. I have used OO because I don't own Excel.

Yesterday I put the trial of Jollans on my laptop that has Excel and found that it can export/import multiple projects to one worksheet! Wow, what a time saver.

My question is, can we implement the same multi project functionality in OO? Or should I just buy Excel? I'd rather spent the money to renew Jollans than Excel that I will never use for anything else.

And another idea. I am actually putting this on Google docs so multiple people can collaborate on the same document. How about some way to enter your Google username/password and have it "sync" up a Google spreadsheet? This is probably a big project, but is the way of the future. Everyone is going to Google docs and/or Office 365.

Hi,

I will look into adding multiple project support to the Open Office export/import. It is probably quite easy.

I implemented the Open Office support years ago, for one user. Since then, I can't remember getting any feedback about it, which has given me the impression that nobody is using it. That's why I didn't update it when I added multiple project support.

Google Docs would indeed be a cool feature. Right now I'm concentrating on a different project, but I will keep it in mind.

Phil

Thanks for the response. If OO is rarely used by your customers, I may be better off just purchasing Excel. The cost isn't a huge deal. And that'll avoid issues like this in the future. Had I switched to Excel a year ago, it would have saved me many headaches!

Please let me know what you recommend, if you want to continue support for OO, can you let me know when this will be ready so I can plan my projects schedule around it? Or if you recommend moving to Excel, that is okay with me as well.

Thanks,
Jas

Hi Jas,

I have just uploaded a new version (5.0x.0059) which has multiple project support for Open Office.

Phil

Hi Phill,

I just tried it and the import of multiple projects works great. The only issue is that it doesn't handle newlines properly. If I import projects one at a time, it works, fine, but importing multiple projects looses all "\n" characters.

Again, if this is something that works properly in Excel, I will purchase to Excel... please advise.

Thanks,
Jas

Hi Jas,

I can't find any error. I have tried it out using two C# Windows Forms projects in Visual Studio 2012 and I didn't have any problems.

Can you tell me what kind of projects you are working with and which version of Visual Studio you are using?

In both the export and the import dialog there is a check box marked "Use escape sequences", which must be selected if you want to use escape sequences. This option will be selected automatically if you open the add-in settings dialog and set the option "Show escape sequences"="Show escape sequences" instead of "Show formatted text".

Phil

Sorry about that. I had a misunderstanding about how the escape sequences worked. I will check the "Use escape sequences" checkbox and I believe that will work.

Thanks,
Jas
