Evaluating Multi-Language Issues

Hi:

I am evaluating Multi-Language Add-in for VS2005, this tool looks pretty cool but I would like to know is some labels or strings are not translated because it´s an evaluation version, it's correct or I am missing something ?. Currently, my application is developed in Spanish (Mexico) and I want to translated to English (USA).

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

the evaluation version only allows a limited number of translations. Otherwise it works exactly the same as a licensed version.

The limit is 100 translations, of which a maximum of 50 may be taken from the global database.

(The only reason to limit the number of translations from the global database, is to prevent it reaching the full limit of 100. If that happened, then you wouldn't be able to enter any translations manually, which would be a pretty poor demo!)

If you reach the limit, then you can't enter any more translations.

What is actually happening in your case? Were you able to enter translations into the grid?

Oh, one other think occurs to me. If you were expecting the Add-In to actually translate your texts automatically, then I'm afraid that it doesn't do this. If does have a global database of translations and it will use a translation from this database automatically if there is an exact match. This is great for common texts like OK and Cancel, but it is a long way from automatic translation.

Hi Phil:

Thanks for your quicly response, I had seen on your web site that one of the products you sell is MULTILANGUAGE DATABASE, but...what exactly is it ?. I was assuming that when you buy Multilanguage Add-in for Visual Studio, it includes a multilanguage database for translations, but now I am confusing, can you explain me please what is the difference ?

Currently I have a VB.NET application with string, phrases & text in spanish (es-MX), but now I need to translate it to english (en-US) and portuguese (pt-BR), so what components do I need to buy for achive my goal ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Multi-Language Database is a quite separate product. The idea behind it is to localize texts which are already stored in a database.

If you localize an application, you might find that some texts are not translated, because they are not part f the application, but are fetched from a database. For example, you might have a database field for an order-status which is stored as plain text ("Order received", "Goods sent", "Invoice paid", ...) in the database. If you start the application in Spanish, the texts will still appear in English, because that's the way they are stored in the database.

The idea behind Multi-Language Database was to add a few extra tables to the database, to store localized texts.

To be honest, I am not really supporting this product. To be a really good product, it would need quite a few additional features, but I don't know whether I will ever add them!

You don't need Multi-Language Database.

To localize your application, the Multi-Language Add-In for .NET is the right tool.

Can you describe the problems that you had? Did you see the texts in the grid? Were you able to enter translations?
